Yoga Nidra
Yoga nidra is a form of deep guided relaxation. This type of meditation is usually practiced lying down and contains instruction with ample space in between instructions. In this type of meditation, expect calm instructions (that you may or may not remember), for your body to feel heavier and colder than usual (bring some blankets!), and for your mind to wander somewhere between waking and sleeping. Translated as "yogic sleep" the goal of yoga nidra is not to induce sleep, but to put the body and mind into a state of active rest - meaning the mind is still alert and the body is in a state of relaxation. Yoga nidra is a meditation practice that is accessible for anyone at any level of practice. It is believed that in this deep state of relaxation, one can tap into the interiors of the subconscious, hear the "true self," release trauma, inspire creativity, or manifest desires on a profound level. This practice is also said to supporting physical and emotional healing, and rejuvenate the system after periods of stress and exhaustion. Yoga nidra is also commonly used to support those who find it hard to fall asleep or sleep deeply. Due to the deep nature of this meditation practice, durations commonly range from 10 minutes all the way up to 60 minutes. Try this meditation practice anytime of day - in the morning, around the afternoon "slump," or at the end of the day to help ease into a deep restful dream state. To get extra comfortable, bring a blanket, a couple of pillows, and something to cover your eyes. Join us on Gaia for a variety of yoga nidra practices to support you today.
